MISSION STATEMENT

The Board of Advocates is comprised of a range of industry leaders representing business, politics, entertainment, media and sport. They have been tapped by the player leadership, specifically the WNBPA Executive Committee, to share their expertise, guidance and unique perspectives with world-class athletes.

ABOUT

Scope of ADVOCATES’ Commitment
The Board of Advocates will support and help shape the efforts of the Union to create meaningful change in the working conditions of players in the WNBA, as well as provide insight and guidance in off-the court matters. The major areas of focus are:

General Advocacy
The opportunity to negotiate an all-new collective bargaining agreement will allow the players to make big decisions that impact their livelihood, health and safety, and overall well-being, not just as athletes but as working women, working moms. We may consult with board members from time to time to determine the best way forward during ongoing discussions.

Business Innovation (Marketing & Group Licensing)
The WNBPA has taken the initiative to launch a group licensing program with NFL Players Inc/REP Worldwide. Through licensing agreements, new player products have emerged in the marketplace. New partners have developed internships for interested players. The old method of doing business is changing and we’re excited about the potential. Companies are demonstrating their commitment in the prominence of women’s sports. Our goal is to raise the visibility of the union and the membership. We seek to accomplish that by creatively maximizing our exposure and engagement in future products and promotions.

Social Advocacy Initiatives (Activism & Philanthropy)
The members of the WNBPA are “more than basketball.” They use their platform and their collective voices to affect positive change in their communities. They have turned their words into action and turned player advocacy into player philanthropy by supporting organizations with a commitment to promoting girls and women in sports and science, protecting voting rights, and preventing gun violence.

#BetOnWomen: The Call to Action
Our rallying cry for players and working women across the country is Bet On Women. Through their contributions to their professions and community, the ADVOCATES have demonstrated that investing in women and girls is also an investment in families and communities.
